Musonics
A catalogue of area musicians, dancers, actors, poets and visual artist dedicated to the free expression of the arts.
As we move through the formative stages of life, society encourages us to embrace the mandates of identity and self-expression. Long before the Freudian revelations of the human psyche, early man projected and communicated his quintessence through a number of artistic forms, and by doing so evoked a sense of social solidarity. And even today, the language of art serves to clarify and diminish our cultural ambiguities.
Art is the ideation, the projection, and ultimately, the reflection of humanity. Art is our staple of likeness to one another. Art is the sensual chord that binds us. It is our collective source of expression and the communication of our emotions. Art is the inherent bloodline of our congenial family, only second to nature itself.
As fundamental as art is to humankind, the impudence of modern societies has seemingly absolved it as an element of our commonwealth, reassigning it to a commercial corner of contemporary life. An even more acute detachment has occurred within our educational strata. In fact, this proclivity of our art forms has been unscrupulously refined as mere entertainment, narrowing its utility in society and isolating it from other tutored communication skills. Unfortunately, most children in American society who experience art as an integral part of their identity only do so when art is considered a priority in the educational systems in which they are enrolled.
Moreover, students who are enrolled in Special Education curriculum are often denied an artistic experience comparable to the mainstream experience of their peers, thus stifling the growth of their artistic persona. Musonics, a proactive outreach initiative presented by the Madison Center for Creative and Cultural Arts (MCCCA) is designed to supplement the efforts of schools, neighborhood centers, social clubs and corporations by contracting performances, workshops and artists-in-residence with area artists who are prominent and active in their respective media. All have met the criteria set by the MCCCA and have unique and extensive experiences in sharing their art forms with young people.
Our mission is to improve the quality of a child’s life by incorporating the arts into all levels of education for aesthetic, academic, cultural and personal development; to ensure that children have equitable access to the literary, performing and visual arts, and to serve as an arts’ resource for Madison and Dane County at large.
Our programs create shared and lasting experiences that commend our participants to their culture, to each other and to their own creative potential. Our artists inspire and provoke their audiences to discover the worlds inside themselves and around them. They challenge them to take risks and shake up misconceptions. They understand the educational trials teachers face and provide modes of supportive instruction. We are proud to present to you the MCCCA roster of artists.
